The Art of Controllerism

Discover and implement a wide range of MIDI controllers and techniques so you can perform your music with confidence, and your own unique style.

In the modern world of live performance, there is a new way of performing. Controllerism is a method that focuses on live control and manipulation of your Ableton Live set using MIDI controllers and performance instruments. From faders to buttons, touchscreens, and devices such as Wiimotes and MiMU Gloves, we'll go over the protocols needed to set these devices up to suite your needs and more. In this course, you'll learn about the deep world of controllerism and how to implement it into your set.

Led by Laura Escudé and Jules Jenssen, two trailblazers in the world of controllerism.

Laura Escudé

Laura Escudé is an artist, innovator, entrepreneur, and live show designer with a deep understanding of complex technology and a profound passion for music and art. Fusing tech with art is her superpower.

Since becoming the first Ableton Certified Trainer back in 2008, Laura's career highlights include designing shows for Kanye West and Jay Z, opening for Miguel on his 2015 Wildheart tour, and building a thriving international business populated by top-tier professionals.

After a tour burnout landed Laura in the hospital back in 2016, she was forced to take a break from work and focus on her health. This physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual process involved letting go of unproductive habits and thought patterns, facing her fears, and giving up aspects of her life that no longer served her.

The experience inspired Laura to help artists accelerate their live performances using technology, while securing a safe place that encourages their own health and well-being.

Jules Jenssen

Jules Jenssen is a drummer/singer/songwriter/AV mad scientist/Ableton wizard/playback engineer. He's played over 1,000 shows with bands of all styles, rarely without Ableton involved. In addition to managing education for Laura Escudé and Electronic Creatives, he can be found at his home studio "Shabby Road" producing and writing music or live streaming his MAD MIDI project, which blends found sights and sounds into synthesiatic songs and stories, using visual and audio samples triggered with drums.
